A Bit of History
Fruit Mostarda has deep historical roots, first mentioned in the 1st century in "De Rustica," and later in 1475 in "De honesta voluptate et valetudine," a cookbook of recipes and culinary preparations by Bartolomeo Sacchi, a Cremonese known as "The Platina." In The Royal Cook and the Farmer, dated 1780, there is an account of Catherine de Medici introducing Mostarda from Cremona to the royal court in 1533, just before becoming Queen of France.
